In 1980 the Sikh Community acquired the premises at Otago Street with a view to convert these to a Sikh Temple. The temple complex is located on five levels and each level has a specific use.
Car Parking is located on lower ground, priests residence, meeting hall, guest accommodation for visiting religious missionaries on mid ground floor.
Community hall and library is on ground floor, the communal kitchen, dining area and sanitary facilities on first floor and the main prayer hall on second floor.
Numerous improvements have been undertaken such as installation of passenger lift etc. It is now proposed to erect a light weight glazed enclosure at first floor level and thus providing additional area to be used for various religious activities.
